Question 1

Is outdoor rattan furniture weatherproof?

Accepted Answer

Most outdoor rattan furniture sold in the UK is made from synthetic PE rattan — polyethylene woven over a powder-coated aluminium frame. PE rattan is UV-stabilised, frost-resistant and fully weatherproof. It won't crack, rot or absorb moisture and can be left outside year-round in the UK.

Question 2

What is the difference between natural rattan and PE rattan?

Accepted Answer

Natural rattan cane is an organic material that absorbs moisture and deteriorates outdoors. PE (polyethylene) rattan is a synthetic weave that is weatherproof, UV-stabilised and frost-resistant. Virtually all garden rattan furniture sold in the UK today is PE rattan.

Question 3

How do I clean rattan garden furniture?

Accepted Answer

Wipe the weave with warm soapy water and a soft brush to clear dirt from between the strands, then rinse with a hose. Store cushions indoors or in a waterproof storage box during extended wet periods. A furniture cover over winter keeps cleaning to a minimum the following spring.

Question 4

What size rattan corner sofa set do I need?

Accepted Answer

A standard rattan corner sofa set typically spans 2.5m x 2.5m or more. Allow at least 1m of circulation space around the set. Always measure your patio or decked area before buying and check the product dimensions carefully — sizes vary significantly between sets.

Question 5

Can rattan furniture be used in a conservatory?

Accepted Answer

Yes. PE rattan with an aluminium frame is equally suited to conservatories, orangeries and garden rooms. Sets marketed specifically as conservatory furniture may use slightly different cushion fabrics suited to the drier indoor environment, but the construction is the same.
